You want a balanced life at your full potential.
I would be honored to support you in that journey.

For people who need more from life than just surviving…

I help guide people from every walk of life to prevent burnout in the workplace, at home, and wherever life applies pressure. It's optional, but I recommend we also use Heart Rate Variability training. By pairing talk therapy with your unique HRV and sleep insights, we will be able to decode what your nervous system has been trying to tell you.

Unlock health, resilience, and happiness.

Areas of focus

Here's a short list of my typical areas of experience — click any topic to read more.

Effective therapy accounts for the full picture. By tracking the mental health vitals and the heart's natural rhythms, you will learn to manage your stressors and emotions with mastery.

Your heart does not beat like a perfect metronome. There are variations between beats depending on what mode your body is in throughout the day. A higher HRV means your nervous system is flexible and handles stress well. A lower HRV means your body is stuck in a stressed state — like the "fight-or-flight" reflex.

Similarly to the way regular bloodwork and blood pressure numbers track your biological health, the five mental health vitals act as markers for us to tune into. If you already wear a device that tracks Heart Rate Variability, sleep, and strain, HRV-Informed Therapy is a great fit. We use the data you already have to identify if your body is feeling safe — or stuck in "fight-flight" mode.

Every client receives full care with or without a wearable. Most clients are already tracking this on their smart devices but unsure how to integrate it into the mental health context. If this is something you would be interested in, Vital Talk Therapy is a perfect fit for you.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, HRV Informed Therapist

After studying Humanities and Psychology at Villanova University and earning a Master's in Clinical Social Work from Rutgers, I began my career at Chilton Medical Center during the pandemic — working across Labor and Delivery, Sub-acute Care, and the Pediatric Clinic in an interdisciplinary setting.

From there, I moved to Morristown Medical Center's Intensive Outpatient Program, leading group therapy for patients recently discharged and still managing symptoms of dual diagnosis.

In 2022, I transitioned to long-term outpatient care, which quickly became my passion, and today I maintain a private practice.

Mental health needs more than normalization. It needs to evolve.

For people who need more from life than just surviving…

140 years of standing still is long enough

For the last 140 years, mental health care has stayed pretty much the same. Talk therapy alone has limits — and the people who need care the most deserve a model that's actually kept up with what we now know about the body and the mind.

Make progress concrete

My approach uses "Mental Health Vitals." I teach you to read your own body's signals and build that knowledge into your daily routine.

Frequently asked questions

"Joe is collaborative, honest, and straightforward."

"I appreciate how he likes to use analogies and humor at times. It helps the new concepts stick."

"Such a great listener! Really knows his stuff and offered an endless range of more than solid advice. As someone who doesn't open up much for me to talk as much as I did on the first session speaks volumes! I highly recommend him to anyone seeking therapy."

Yes — I'm in-network with Aetna, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, The World Trade Center Health Program, and Meridian Health. If you have one of these plans, sessions are billed directly through insurance and you pay nothing beyond your plan's standard copay.

If you are planning to pay privately, or your plan offers out-of-network (OON) reimbursement, the initial appointment is $250 and follow-up sessions are $200 per session, both due at the time of service. I'm happy to provide a superbill so you can seek reimbursement directly from your insurer if your plan allows it.

Both telehealth and in-person sessions are available, depending on your preference and location.

I work with clients 20 years of age and up. Follow-up sessions typically run 45 to 50 minutes depending on client preference. Initial sessions are 60 minutes in length.

No, you do not have to use any wearable or data device for us to work together. Some people prefer faster, data-driven results, while others prefer to keep things simple — either way, it is your choice, and I am happy to do it your way.

I track six areas of life: Activity, Sleep, Nutrition, Mind, Body, and Spirit. Using a wearable makes these easy to see and track, so our sessions go beyond the usual "so, how's your week been?" format.

This approach is inspired by the US Air Force's Preservation of the Force and Family program. Wearable data lets me track what I call your "Mental Health Vitals" — giving us a clearer, faster way to help you cope with stress and live a better life.

Together, we'll work on helping you understand and improve both your mind and body, so you can live the life you actually want.

The first session is straightforward. We build rapport, you share what brought you in, and together we establish an initial set of goals for treatment. There is no pressure to go deeper than you are ready for.

Yes, what is shared in therapy is entirely confidential with few exceptions. I cover this in detail during our consult call if you are new to therapy.

I currently work with insurance in New Jersey only for individual therapy, both in person and via telehealth. I also offer hybrid models when necessary.

I believe that good therapy should come to an end at some point. Each story is different, but ultimately, if I do my job right, you should feel empowered to self-rescue over time and build increasing resilience as we go. The frequency of sessions should reduce over time after we have gotten a good handle on the problem. Progress is dependent on your level of commitment to change.

I have worked with clients who only needed 8 weeks of weekly therapy, followed by bi-weekly sessions for the remainder of the year, at which point we felt things were back to normal. Other clients require regular long-term support. Ultimately, you set the pace.

Getting started is simple. Reach out via the contact form at the top of the home page to schedule a free consultation.

Bad therapy experiences are more common than people think — whether it was the wrong fit with a previous therapist, care that felt too generic, or simply never having had the space to define what good therapy would actually look like for you. Before we get started, I make it a priority to understand exactly what you need from therapy. What didn't work before, what you're hoping for now, and what kind of working relationship would allow you to actually open up. The right fit matters more than anything else, and finding it is part of the work from day one.
